Does the order of your skincare routine matter?

Why does the order of your skincare routine matter?

The order of application when it comes to skincare routines is important in order to maximize benefits, and see results. Skincare routines do not have to be complex, in fact, simplicity is key but the order in which you apply them is critical. It can be overwhelming and inconsistent when you have too many products but do not know when to use them. Following a routine will be beneficial for your skin, and your wallet so products do not go to waste.

We suggest starting with taking your make up completely off with a makeup remover, or makeup cleansing oil. Our Soyier Skin Illuminating Makeup Cleansing Oil is made from a combination of pumpkin and grape seed oils that gently removes dirt and grime without excessive drying of the skin. Mascara is calmly, yet effectively, removed without excessive scrubbing. Over scrubbing can cause skin irritation, redness, and dryness.

Next, we recommend using a cleanser based on your skincare concerns. If you are just starting to incorporate skincare into your daily routine we suggest starting with a gentle and hydrating cleanser. The Soyier Skin Crisp Conditioning Face Milk is a perfect start to a skincare routine. This gentle yet powerful creamy cleanser is packed with nutrients and antioxidants to help fight free radicals. Supremely hydrating ingredients such as Aloe Vera and Green Tea leave the skin feeling moisturized rather than dry. You can also substitute a gentle cleanser with something to target acne, or to help with exfoliation. We recommend cleansers with salicylic acid to help target it acne-causing bacteria, and decrease oil production.

After cleansing, it is important to tone your skin before applying your other products. Toner will remove the last of the dirt and bacteria from your skin’s pores while adding hydration and restoring the pH of your skin. The extra hydration preps your skin cells to receive maximum benefits from the following serums and moisturizers. It is also important to keep track of the ingredients within your toner. Always avoid toners with drying alcohols, and look for toners with hydrating ingredients such as aloe.

*When you get to this step during your night time routine you can add in your retinol!

When your skin is completely clean, we suggest adding back the hydration. We suggest applying these products thinnest to thickest, starting off with serums. The thinnest serums are able to reach deeper layers of the skin to provide hydration from the bottom to the top. Using a serum with Hyaluronic acid, and Niacinamide will leave your skin feeling fresh, youthful, and hydrated. We also recommend incorporating a Vitamin C serum, specifically a Vitamin C that is paired with Vitamin E, and Ferulic Acid. This combination can help improve hyperpigmentation, and leaves the skin bright and glowing.

The next level of hydration is applying your moisturizer. Again, choosing a moisturizer will be different for everyone based on your skincare needs. Moisturizers can be different from day to night to provide different benefits. The main goal of your moisturizer is to increase occlusion to prevent water loss.

Lastly, seal the deal with a facial oil. Many people thinking adding an oil to their skincare routine could cause acne break outs or too much oil secretion but that is not the case. Facial oil can be used to regulate oil production and to seal in the previously applied serums and moisturizers. The Soyier Skin Advanced Renewal Facial Oil is non-comedogenic and works to support the skin at a cellular level. This transformative oil protects against free radical damage, plumps and softens lines from aging and lack of moisture, enhances collagen production, combats scar tissue, and lifts dark spots, all resulting in a pure, fresh, blemish-free, and glowing complexion.

At a glance, this routine can sound daunting. As your skin adapts, it will begin to crave the routine and the nourishment that comes to applying products appropriately. If you are overwhelmed by the length of the routine initially. Start slow with just a cleanser, moisturizer, and always add SPF. Never forget the last step and protecting your skin with SPF!
